Welcome to the MERE project. This
project has been dead for such a long time. However I'm going to try
and bring it back to life, with a slightly different focus. I want it
to be a network-multiplayer game, where each user agent is both client
and server. Each area of the game is served by a different computer (or
it may be the same) and if one computer logs off, it transfers its
responsibilities to another. The concept that anyone can inject objects
into the game world still stands, and the game will maintain state as
long as at least one agent is connected.
The current development is Miyako - this is a multiplayer
chat program using the MERE client/server principle. Users will be
able to move around on a simple map, and chat with other users in the
vicinity.
The project came from an original idea
here, which was to develop:
- An RPG with persistent state, so that actions are
remembered across games
- Extensible via different chapters
- Various levels of collaboration; from adding new scripted
objects, to an entirely stand-alone game which is linked only by a
common save file format.
At the moment, there's not much to see here; if you'd like to join in,
please contact me on
this address and I will add you to the developers list.
